FIRE
Financial Independence, Retire Early — a movement built around saving aggressively to retire decades before 60.
FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) is a movement built around saving and investing aggressively — often 50%+ of income — to build a corpus large enough to retire well before traditional retirement age. The target corpus is typically 25× annual expenses (the '4% rule').
For India, the 4% rule needs adjustment — higher inflation suggests a 3–3.5% safe withdrawal rate and a 28–30× multiplier. There are subgroups: Lean FIRE (minimal expenses), Fat FIRE (comfortable lifestyle), Coast FIRE (saved enough that existing corpus will grow into a retirement corpus by 60 with no further contributions).
